Making a few common makeup mistakes can inadvertently add years to your appearance. Fortunately, these errors are easy to fix with a few simple adjustments.
One of the most common mistakes is using a heavy, full-coverage foundation. While it may seem like a good idea to cover every imperfection, thick foundation can settle into fine lines and wrinkles, emphasizing them rather than concealing them. The solution is to switch to a lightweight, hydrating formula like a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. These products provide a more natural finish and allow your skin’s natural radiance to shine through.
Another error is over-powdering your face. A dusting of powder can set your makeup, but too much can make your skin look dry and crepey, especially around the eyes and mouth. Instead, use a large, fluffy brush to apply a translucent setting powder only where you need it, such as on the T-zone, to control shine.
Finally, harsh eyeliner and mascara on your lower lash line can create a dark, heavy look that draws attention to under-eye circles and fine lines. Instead, skip the eyeliner on your lower lid and use a brown or gray pencil to gently tightline your upper lash line. For your lashes, focus on curling them and applying mascara to your top lashes only, which will open up your eyes and create a more youthful, lifted appearance.
